Hacker Group Anonymous Now Targeting ISIS Social Accounts

Hacker group Anonymous are now targeting extremist group ISIS by taking over their social media accounts in an attempt to stop ‘terrorist propaganda’.

They have a strong presence online, including accounts on Twitter, Instagram, YouTube and Facebook, which they use to gain new recruits.

However, in a new blog post and video message, a section of the Anonymous hacker group announced Operation ISIS with the hashtag #OpISIS, stating: “ISIS, we will hunt you, take down your sites, accounts, emails and expose you. You will be treated like a virus, and we are the cure. We own the internet.”

Anonymous have already published a list of around 800 accounts and passwords of social media and email accounts, as they have targeted ISIS since June last year but have increased their number of attacks on them since the Charlie Hebdo attacks in Paris.

The latest blog post, has a new list of social media accounts run by ISIS members that have been taken down by the hackers.

We come from all races, countries, religions and ethnicity. Remember – the terrorists that are calling themselves Islamic State (ISIS) are not Muslims!Anonymous statement on Operation ISIS

Despite having their sites and accounts taken offline, ISIS are still attempting to maintain an online presence by creating new profiles, so will Anonymous ever be able to wipe them off the Internet completely?
