Storm Barra has arrived leaving thousands who faced the storms full force in Ireland without power whilst In Northern Ireland, another 7,500 homes and businesses have been disconnected from the grid, according to NI Electricity.
Wind speeds of 97.5mph were recorded at the Fastnet Lighthouse off the Cork coast earlier this morning, with gusts of more than 80mph in parts of the country.
The storm is now sweeping across UK bringing Blizzard conditions across high ground in England and widely throughout the Scottish Highlands where as much as 20cms is expected.
Elsewhere those who had spent nearly two weeks without power in the North East of the England will be keeping everything crossed that winds of 60-70mph don’t result in more outages later today.
Further South and for much of England heavy rain and wind speeds between 40-60mph is to be expected leading to hazardous driving.
