Angry shoppers threaten to boycott Wilko for allowing dogs in stores

Wilko has given permission for dog owners to bring their pets inside stores from today, which has resulted in some shoppers threatening to boycott stores.

Wilko’s statement said: “A pet is more than just a pet, they’re family. That’s why we’ve decided to welcome pets in-store at 248 of our locations.

“We hope that shoppers will enjoy bringing their furry friends along with them. Please check for new signage at the entrance of your local store to see if they are participating.”

The rollout has been made to over two-thirds of Wilko’s home and garden stores and will allow pets to browse all areas of stores, except for food aisles.

One Wilko customer said she would be boycotting the business as a result, while Wilko responded by saying “many customers think of pets as family members”.

Another fan of the shop, Charl Naylor, said: “I like dogs, but don’t particularly want them around me in a shop. Lots of people are afraid of dogs, and being in a confined space with them isn’t going to be a pleasant experience.

Another person said: “Wilko you should do better and no better shame on you! I have already had an incident in one of your stores with a pet dog trying to attack my assistance dog!! And that was before you did this stupid rule.”
