Nicola’s pet dog, Willow was also found – but there was no trace still of the mum of two.

Police searching for Nicola today confirmed a body had been found in the River Wyre, less than a mile from where she was last seen.

They said no formal identification has been carried out so are unable to say whether the remains belong to the mother of two.

Lancashire Police said they “sadly recovered a body” after they were called to the River Wyre near Rawcliffe Road at 11:35 GMT on Sunday.

“Nicola’s family have been informed of developments and our thoughts are with them at this most difficult of times. We ask that their privacy is respected.”
