Brits to enjoy 5 day heatwave with temperatures reaching 22c

Warmer weather is finally here with Brits looking forward to some fantastic spring sunshine starting today and lasting through till Sunday.

A high pressure system to the east of the country is moving in advecting warmer air across the UK and by Wednesday it will be centred over the country.

Southern areas including parts of London and Cambridge are set to bask in up to 20C heat on Tuesday, and forecasters have advised anyone spending long periods outdoors to wear sunscreen.

Following a warm weekend when the mercury hit 20.2C in Kinlochewe in Scotland, Met Office forecaster Aidan McGivern said Brits can look forward to a further warm sunshine.

“There will be more spring sunshine to come during the rest of the week,” he said.

“High pressure close to the east then becomes increasingly centred over the UK from Wednesday into Thursday and Friday.”

Wednesday and Thursday should see the peak of the heatwave with temperatures potentially reaching 21 or 22C for parts of North West London stretching into the Midlands however even the weekend could see the mercury just about hit 20C allowing plenty of opportunities for that first BBQ since last year.

Despite some fine, sunny and warm days night time temperatures are expected to drop considerably and quite quickly with overnight lows between 2 and 5C.
