Brits have been told to prepare as up to 15 cms of snow is expected to fall across some parts of the UK tonight and on Saturday.
Snow has already started falling across Durham in Northeast England and is expected to fall across many northern areas overnight.
Temperatures are expected to plummet below freezing with widespread frosts for most areas.
The fall in temperatures is due to ‘Arctic air’ coming in from the North with wind speeds expected to reach 60mph widely and up to 100mph in coastal areas.
Snow is most likely to occur above 100-300m in northern England and Scotland, but snow is expected to fall down to lower levels during the early hours, with some areas expected to see 5-10cm and possibility 15cm on higher routes.
