After a few mild days the heating will need cranking up as a cold Northerly heralds the beginning of 5/6 cold days and frosty nights.
Today we are seeing cold air sweep in to Scotland bringing with it one or two snow showers with 10cms possible over the hills in the East.
As this air sweeps South the rest of UK will feel the cold with night time temperatures below freezing for much of the UK from Friday night right through until Tuesday night.
The coldest nights are Saturday and Sunday where Scottish temperatures could dip as low as -8c whilst England, Wales and Northern Ireland will typically see lows between -1c and -3c.
Beyond this spell a gradual return to near average temperatures is looking likely before a possible colder and snowier spell as we go into the second week of December.
