The number of people who have died from the coronavirus outbreak in Italy has jumped by 250 in just 24 hours.
The country’s death toll is now 1,266!
It comes as Europe was declared the ‘epicentre of the pandemic’ by the World Health Organisation, with more cases and deaths than the rest of the world combined excluding China.
Emergency measures have seen bars, restaurants, sports stadiums, schools and cinemas shut down as part of a nationwide lockdown in Italy.
It is the worst hit country outside of China with 17,660 confirmed cases of the coronavirus.
