John bercow found guilty of bullying staff

Ex-Speaker John Bercow today revealed he has been found guilty of bullying by Parliament’s watchdog  but dismissed the inquiry as a “kangaroo court”.

Bercow said he is currently appealing against a “protracted, amateurish and unjust process” after multiple claims he bullied staff.

Lord Lisvane, who was Clerk of the House under his reign, handed a dossier of allegations to Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards Kathryn Stone in January 2020.

It is understood it alleged both he and former colleagues were bullied and humiliated, including using inappropriate language.

According to the Sunday Times, Ms Stone upheld 21 out of 35 bullying complaints brought by Lord Lisvane and private secretaries Kate Emms and Angus Sinclair.

Mr Bercow said: “I categorically deny that I have ever bullied anyone, anywhere at any time”
