Glasgow is on lockdown today amid unconfirmed reports that three people have been stabbed to death in a hotel by a knifeman then shot by armed police.
The Scottish city centre is on lockdown after Police Scotland declared a ‘major incident’ at around 1pm before officers with automatic weapons stormed the Park Inn hotel in West George Street.
BBC reporter Catriona Renton is on the scene and tweeted: ‘Understood three dead in a stairwell of hotel. Had been stabbed. Police shot suspect’.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has tweeted: “The reports from Glasgow City Centre are truly dreadful. My thoughts are with everyone involved. I am being updated as the situation becomes clearer. Please help the emergency services do their jobs by staying away from the area – and please don’t share unconfirmed information.”
Update: Earlier reports that 3 people may have been killed has thankfully turned out not to be the case. Only the attacker involved has died after being shot by armed police.
