A man who was arrested after officers found a 12 inch knife in his possession, has escaped court with only a suspended sentence.
Police officers did a stop and search on a 18-year-old called Abdirabi Botan in East Leicester on Monday evening. He was found with a 12 inch blade in his possession.
Abdirabi Botan was arrested and taken into custody where he was later charged.
Botan appeared at Leicester Magistrates Court today where he pleaded guilty to possession of a knife.
He was sentenced to 16 weeks imprisonment suspended for 12 months.
Neighbourhood Policing Area Commander for East Leicester, Inspector Yakub Ismail said: “Knife crime will not be tolerated in our communities and we are continually working to proactively tackle knife crime in East Leicester.’’
