My brother lay dead and husband lay dying as No 10 threw BYOB bash

Furious Brits today shared harrowing stories of their life under lockdown in May 2020 when they were unable to visit dying relatives and could only meet one person from another household outside – while No10 held a ‘bring your own booze’ garden party.

One Twitter user wrote: ‘While my brother lay dead and my husband lay dying, Downing Street staff were invited to a drinks party in the No 10 garden to ”make the most of the lovely weather”. No drinks parties for us to mark their deaths, just solitary mourning in lock-down.’

A bombshell email leaked last night proved that Boris Johnson’s principal private secretary, Martin Reynolds, messaged more than 100 staff to No10’s lavish gardens on May 20 to ‘make the most of the lovely weather’.

At the time, indoor socialising was banned and only two people were allowed to meet outside while at least two metres apart under national Covid curbs. There was no mixing indoors, non-essential shops were shut, and hospitality businesses remained closed.

People across twitter have had that say over the last 24 hours:
