National Trust to close parks and gardens to help stop the spread of coronavirus

The National Trust will close its parks and gardens from midnight on Saturday to help stop the spread of the coronavirus.

The decision has been taken ahead of Mother’s Day, which the Trust predicts will attract more people to its open spaces despite Government advice on maintaining social distancing.

Director general Hilary McGrady said: ‘Despite our desire to keep our outdoor spaces open, the health and wellbeing of our staff, volunteers and visitors has to be our top priority.
