Plastic bag tax could be raised to 70p!

Greenpeace has made calls for the price of plastic bags to be raised to the hefty price of 70p which if brought in would mean I currently have around £375 worth.

The reason for the call however is that despite the fee being introduced plastic consumption of single use plastics within large retailers has actually risen from 886,000 tonnes in 2017 to over 900,000 in 2018.

Greenpeace has published a report in partnership with the Environmental Investigation Agency which found that, When the Republic of Ireland similarly increased their plastic bag tax, Sales reduced by 90%!

The report also suggests that some of the public would be relatively happy paying the extra cost with 58% happy to pay 20p, 14% would pay 50p and 6% happy to pay £1.
