Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney celebrate as Wrexham promoted to Football league

Fans celebrate after Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney led Wrexham back into the Football League.

The pair who paid £2 million for the club in 2020 – partied with supporters after winning 3-1 over Boreham Wood to clinch top spot in the National League

In a script that even their owners would be proud of, promotion back to the EFL comes exactly 15 years after they lost their league status in 2008.

It’s been a long time coming, but Paul Mullin’s inspired display means that supporters of the third oldest club in world football finally have something to cheer.

Mullin is no stranger to life in the EFL and after netting two wonderstrikes at the Racecourse Ground he’ll be desperate to lead the team into an exciting new era – fresh from being described as ‘one of the greatest players in the world’ by his grateful employers.

Reynolds and McElhenney looked visibly nervous throughout the 95 minutes of action on Saturday evening, but they couldn’t hide their delight at seeing their vision come to fruition.

After the match is was clear what the occasion meant to the club’s owners, with Reynolds holding his head in hands and McElhenney wiping away the tears in a clear show of what the achievement meant to him.
