The force has previously said it does not believe that the Labour leader broke the rules when he had a takeaway and drank beer with colleagues in the run-up to the Hartlepool by-election on April 30.

But Durham Police are poised to investigate whether rules were broken at the event, according to the Telegraph. Sir Keir has consistently denied that regulations were breached.

At the time of the gathering, non-essential retail and outdoor venues including pub gardens were open but social distancing rules, which included a ban on indoor mixing between households, remained in place.
