Teachers & pupils should have weekly tests when schools reopen

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been urged to improve the track and trace system and look at introducing weekly tests for schools when they reopen.

Anne Longfield, Children’s commissioner for England, stated that holding frequent tests of teachers and pupils needed to be a priority in order to ensure the school environment is safe.

She told Times Radio: ‘I think it needs to be as regular as it needs to be, to ensure that the infection is caught and identified as quickly as possible and then the tracking system can move on from that.’

Kate Green, Labour’s shadow education secretary, also told the broadcaster: ‘I do think the government could be doing more to support [teachers], particularly, for example, making sure we’ve got a really robust test and trace system in place.
