The Met Office has issued a Yellow warning for Snow and Lightning for Thursday.

Snow is expected to start during the early hours of Thursday morning and will continue until 8pm in some parts of the country.

Forecasters have said that frequent heavy snow showers are expected, along with very gusty winds and a chance of frequent lightning in some areas.

Up to 3-7cm of snow could fall at low levels, with up to 20cm over higher ground.

Places most likely to see snow are Scotland, Northern England and Wales.

The Met Office said: “Temperatures are expected to drop sharply overnight with frequent wintry showers.’’

“The showers will be accompanied by strong, blustery winds, with gusts of 45-55 mph possible, and a chance of 65 mph on coasts. There is a chance that some of the showers could be accompanied by frequent lightning.’’
