UK airport forced to suspend all flights after heatwave melts runway tarmac

A UK airport has suspended all of its flights after the tarmac melted as temperatures reached almost 40C.

Luton Airport is used by airlines such as EasyJet, Ryanair and TUI and was forced to suspend all flights today after the runway melted due to temperatures reaching 36C.

Flights that are inbound to the airport are not being diverted as repairs are being carried out.

The last flight to take off was believed to have been at 3.07pm. The airport only has one runway.
